Moldflow Magics STL Expert is licensed from Materialise

Moldflow has released a stereolithography (STL) model manipulation tool designed specifically for injection moulders. Moldflow Magics STL Expert 1.0 is provided under licence from rapid-prototyping company Materialise. It will be sold through Moldflow’s sales teams.

Ken Welch, executive vice president and general manager of Moldflow’s design analysis solutions business unit, said: “We are very pleased with Materialise for the quick turn-around in developing this product. We expect it to positively impact the productivity of the vast majority of our design analysis customers that use STL models.”

The software can be used to view, measure, correct and optimise STL and solid surface models in preparation for analysis using Moldflow’s Dual Domain technology.

Dual Domain analysis uses STL models as the starting geometry – Moldflow Magics STL Expert 1.0 can be used to validate STL models and resolve any problems prior to analysing with Moldflow’s design analysis solutions.

Moldflow says Magics STL Expert 1.0 interfaces with Moldflow Design Link to import solid surface models and convert them to STL format.
