A World Bank survey ranks India among the best reformers of business regulation

India, which is already attracting the attention of a growing number of international plastics companies, is ranked today among the top 10 reformers of business regulation in the World Bank’s global Doing Business 2005 survey.

According to the World Bank survey, which measured and assessed current business regulations in 145 countries around the world, India has significantly lightened the burden of regulation in three of its key measurement indicators over the past 12 months: contract enforcement, obtaining credit and business closures.

While the Indian authorities cannot match the improvements made by the Slovakian government, which tops the table of reformers, progress is significant. And the election earlier this year of reformist Manmohan Singh as prime minister should see this progress continuing – in his first national press conference last week he reaffirmed his promise of economic reform to the Indian people.

The World Bank’s report is published in the week before EPN’s Plastics in India conference in London, where leading experts on the Indian economy will be joining some major plastics industry names to talk about the opportunities that the company presents to investors.

Speakers at the event, which will be held at the Harrington Hall Hotel, will include senior representatives from Standard Chartered Bank, Reliance Industries, PlastiIndia Foundation, Owens Corning, Basell, Collins & Aikman, Demag Plastics Group and Rollepaal.
