The global packaging company is seeking a buyer for the large business

Tetra Pak has confirmed it is seeking a buyer for the extensive hole-through-the-wall HDPE dairy packaging operations it has built up over the past eight years. Sales of the business are estimated at $250m (E204m). It has 13 different facilities in nine countries.

Tetra Pak’s drive into plastic containers, backed by a partnership with US equipment maker Graham Machinery, made headlines ten years ago. The company recruited top line management from majors such as GEP and Dow to lead the diversification strategy.

Tetra Pak is retaining an enthusiasm for plastic packaging, but only in PET. It signalled its preference with the acquisition of French blow moulding equipment leader Sidel last year.
