China Plastics Processing Industry Association reveals figures at Cipad meeting
The Chinese plastics processing industry grew by more than 20% in the first eight months of 2003.
According to statistics from the China National Light Industry Information Centre, sales reached RMB178 billion (E17.3bn), an increase of 23% over the same period in 2002. This produced a profit of RMB12bn (E1.2bn), a 13% increase. The figures include state-owned enterprises and companies with sales of more than RMB5 million (E486,000). Total sales in 2002 were RMB230bn, which suggests that full-year results for 2003 will be RMB284bn (E27.6bn). The figures were presented by Liao Zhenpin, secretary general of the China Plastics Processing Industry Association, at a recent meeting of Cipad – the Council of International Plastics Association Directors. At the same meeting, Li Jian of the China Light Industry Machinery Association said that the production value of plastics machinery reached RMB12.8bn (E1.2bn), a 20% increase over 2002. Cipad’s next meeting, during K2004 in Düsseldorf in October, will see Serge Lavoie of the Canadian Plastics Industry Association replace Italy’s Claudio Celata as Cipad secretary general.
