Placon to open plant in China The Capital Times
Placon Corp. has announced plans to open a plant to make its plastic packaging in China in October to go after customers in that booming country. The plant will not result in lost jobs in Fitchburg, Placon said. In fact, the company said it plans to continue increasing employment in Fitchburg and begin operating 24/7 there by the end of September. The 60,000-square-foot thermoforming plant will produce packaging for retail, food and medical markets. It will be located in Suzhou, about 55 miles northwest of Shanghai. Placon said it will go after current and past U.S.-based clients who have operations in China, and are being served by packaging firms in that region. "Placon is establishing operations in China to retain and regain business which has been moving to China steadily over the past five years and to expand into China's domestic market," Placon CEO Jan Acker said in a statement.
