The Atofina subsidiary said the decision to close the Leeuwarden site was part of plans to consolidate its sheet business in Europe. It will leave Atoglas with one cast sheet plant in Saint Avold and an extruded sheet plant at Bernouville. Meanwhile, Atofina UK confirmed that the split into two companies will be achieved on 1 October (PRW.com 24 February). David Gresham will continue heading the petrochemicals business in Stalybridge, which covers styrene, polystyrene, polyethylene and polypropylene. Paul Jukes will manage the chlorochemicals, intermediates and performance products division that is to be based in Solihull. A new name for this business will be announced in October.
