Chinese extrusion market booms on plastic window ruleChinese extrusion market booms on plastic window rule A Chinese requirement that 50% of all installed window profiles to be plastic by 2010 has set off enormous development in the market, according to Dr Franz Grajewski, manager of the extrusion technology business unit at Krauss-Maffei. Grajeski said at a K show preview last week that China’s largest profile extruder, Dalian Shide, will soon have capacity to make 500,000tpa of PVCu window profiles. But with rapid growth in extrusion capacity, Chinese made PVC window profiles are starting to be exported to Europe and the USA. Krauss-Maffei managing director Graziano Parisi said US profile manufacturers in particular have complained that Chinese profile makers are offering profiles at prices below the cost of production in the USA. Parisi said this is not only because Chinese profile makers profit from lower material costs in China, but also because they do not calculate the depreciation cost of their machinery within the price of the profile.
