Lanxess to compound PA and PBT in China

Lanxess to compound PA and PBT in China

Lanxess, the plastics company due to be spun off by Bayer, is to build a plant in China to produce PA and PBT compounds. The plant is expected to come onstream in 2006 and will mainly serve the strongly growing automotive industy in the region according to Hubert Fink, head of the Lanxess semi-crystalline products business unit.

He told PRW.com that locally available polymer will be used in the plant – which will produce unreinforced, mineral filled and glass-fibre reinforced PA6, PA66 and PBT compounds.

Because the project is still at the feasibility planning stage, Fink could not give further information on investment cost, capacity or location of the new plant. Lanxess future board member Ulrich Koemm – currently chairman of Bayer Chemicals – said the new compounding plant is only one example of Lanxess’ investment palans in China.

“We will go more with end solutions with customers,” he said. “Not multi-million investments for base polymers, but using them to make specialities.”
