It aims to use organic growth and acquisitions to achieve its goal

Polymer additives leader Ciba Specialty Chemicals is aiming to build a bigger position in the flame retardants sector. It will use both organic growth and acquisitions to achieve its goal, top management at the division say. The priority will be to develop in the non-halogenated area, which Ciba recently strengthened with its purchase of the Melapur business from DSM.

Flame retardants already forms one of five pillars of the Swiss company’s SFr1.7bn additives portfolio, but added growth in the sector emerged as a key target at a pre-K briefing held at the division’s Basle headquarters last week. The company has demonstrated its existing position and the ability to combine FR and weathering properties with the use of its Tinuvin FR additive at the city’s St Jakobs Park stadium.

At K2004 in October, Ciba will highlight at least 10 new products, including Tinuvin XT833, for improved weathering of flexible PVC outdoors.
