Finely dispersed PA particles avoid the need for a compatibilising agentFinely dispersed PA particles avoid the need for a compatibilising agent Monofilament and packaging tape extrusion plant manufacturer Reimotec says it can now recycle PET/PA bottle waste into packaging straps without using a compatibilising agent. A compatibilising agent has so far been considered necessary in work conducted at the IKV plastics processing institute (PRW.com 16 March). However, Reimotec managing director Jürgen Morton-Finger told PRW.com the trick was to highly disperse the PA into fine particles using a twin-screw extruder. Speaking at a K show preview last week, Morton-Finger said the introduction of the single-trip deposit in Germany had boosted the amount of PET/PA waste available, as PET bottles were increasingly used for packaging beer. Before the deposit came into force, Morton-Finger said most PET bottle waste arising in Germany was exported to China, but the Chinese could not use PET bottle waste with PA barriers.
