The research project is developing TPE micropellets for automotive applicationsThe research project is developing TPE micropellets for automotive applications A project in Spain’s Basque region is developing a method to rotomould thermoplastic elastomers for automotive applications. Bilbao-based automotive moulder Cromoduro is collaborating with the Gaiker Technology Centre to develop TPE micropellets that will enable the material to be rotationally moulded. The research project aims to develop alternative polymers to produce soft-touch materials for automotive interiors. The micropelletising process could also be applied to concentrated pigments and masterbatches, the organisations said. They said the advantages of micropellets are lower energy consumption during processing, the possibility of using smaller diameter extruders and the better dispersion of additive concentrates within a resin mix.
