The name was leaked to VKE members this week

Plastics Europe will be the name of the new unified European polymer producers association, it was revealed this week. The information was leaked to members of the German polymer producers association VKE at their annual meeting on Wednesday.

Association of Plastics Manufacturers director-general Nancy Russotto told PRW.com the name and formation of the new organisation was still subject to approval at the APME members meeting in Dresden on 14 May. The association is set to come into force on 1 January 2005.

The VKE will become Plastics Europe Deutschland; it will retain its close association with the VCI German chemical industry association. As one of five regional Plastics Europe centres, Plastics Europe Deutschland will represent the interests of polymer producers in Austria, Switzerland and in the eight new eastern European EU member countries.

The four other regional centres will be: Iberia, based in Spain; North, covering the UK and Scandinavia and based in the UK; Mediterranean, including Turkey and represented by a regional centre in Italy; West, covering Benelux and France and based in Paris. Plastics Europe’s headquarters will be in Brussels.

VKE managing director Dr Peter Orth said: “The plastics producers in Europe make a decisive contribution with their products towards sustainable development and higher quality of life. To gain acceptance in social acceptance for this, we will bring together our national and European activities and efforts and intensify our concerns with the relevant public opinion in Europe.”
