The South Wales plant remained open today, despite strike action by employees

Hoover Group’s South Wales plant remained open today, despite strike action by employees. The company faced a one-day strike involving more than 300 of its 500-strong workforce in a dispute over pay.

Members of trade union Amicus decided to strike when they were offered no pay increase this year. The union said this followed a two-year period in which workers received no pay rises due to an increase in pension contribution. An Amicus spokeswoman told PRW.com the Merthyr Tydfil factory would remain open since the union failed to coordinate strike action with fellow trade union GMB, which has 45 members at the site.

However, she said the two unions together planned a one-day strike on Wednesday 5 May; it was expected the site would have to close for the day.
