The UK group has paid E32.5m for Plastic Omnium Medical

Rexam has acquired the French pharmaceutical packaging business of Plastic Omnium for E32.5m. Plastic Omnium Medical has one factory in La Verpilliere, south of Lyon and employs 170 people. The business supplies packaging for a variety of applications including drug delivery devices and inhalers. It is one of the main suppliers of the multidose dry powder inhaler to GlaxoSmithKlein, a product that is also supplied by Rexam.

The business had sales, excluding tooling, of E26m and earnings before interest and tax of E5.4m. Its net operating assets are approximately E16m. Rexam chief executive Rolf Borjesson said: “Plastic Omnium Medical is a well run, modern company and it will fit well with our Rexam Pharma businesses.”

The deal makes the company the joint second-largest supplier of pharmaceutical moulded plastic packaging in Europe.
