M&G's Actituf PET barrier will be used in Belgian and Dutch beer containers

M&G's Actituf PET barrier will be used in Belgian and Dutch beer containers

PET barrier technology from Italy’s Mossi & Ghisolfi Group is being used to bottle beer sold in western Europe for the first time. Interbrew is using M&G’s Actituf technology in containers for Stella Artois and Jupiler beers sold in Belgium and its Dommelsch brew in The Netherlands.

M&G chief executive Marco Ghisolfi said: “Interbrew has done extensive tests to guarantee that the quality of its beers packaged in bottles made from Actituf resin comply with stringent quality requirements. We are extremely pleased to be working with them.”

Actituf combines an active oxygen scavenging system and a passive gas barrier system, enabling the beer to stay fresher for longer. The company said it had commissioned “extensive” third-party testing on the recyclability of the barrier. It concluded that Actituf “does not adversely affect the ability to use recovered PET for typical secondary applications such as fibres, bottles and strapping”. It is submitting the test results for peer review by Petcore in Europe and APR in the US.
