The Norwegian pipe maker has ordered an extrusion unit from Reifenhäuser for the large pipes

Norwegian pipe maker Pipelife has ordered an extrusion unit to make HDPE pipes up to 2 metres in diameter. Germany’s Reifenhäuser is constructing the mammoth extrusion unit that is due to begin operating in June. The company said pipe diameters are presently limited to 1.6 metres.

The larger pipes will mean plastic will be able to replace concrete and steel in effluent drainage and sea floor applications, according to Reifenhäuser. The extrusion line will have a single-screw extruder with screw diameter of 150mm and 33L/D length. Maximum wall thickness will be 135mm and the unit will weigh 50 tonnes in total.
