BASF to increase Prices of Acrylic Monomers

As of April 1, 2004, BASF will increase its prices for acrylic acid and acrylic esters (methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, n-butyl acrylate, 2-ethyl hexyl acrylate) worldwide by €130 per metric ton (8 US cent per pound).

This is the company’s reaction to the continuously unsatisfying earnings situation which has been intensified by an unexpected rise in raw material costs in this business segment. BASF is the world's largest manufacturer of acrylic acid and acrylic esters. Acrylic acid is the most important precursor of superabsorbents - the absorbent component found in diapers and other hygienic articles. Acrylic esters, the most important resultant products are used to produce for example architectural coatings, adhesive raw materials or construction chemicals.
