Rexam to focus on proprietary rotary thermoforming and PET bottles

UK packaging firm RPC Group has acquired plastic tub making sites from Rexam. The company paid £16.2m (E24m) for four European plants at Hereford in the UK, Troyes in France, Antwerp in Belgium and As in the Czech Republic. The factories supply thin-wall injection mouldings, employing 500 staff in total.

The Hereford factory was Rexam’s last injection moulding site in the UK. A Rexam spokesman told PRW.com: “We want to grow in areas there we have a strong niche position. We think these units will have a stronger position with RPC.”

He added the firm wanted to concentrate on proprietary rotary thermoforming (RTF) and PET bottles. Rexam has two British RTF sites in Yate near Bristol and Deeside, and one in the US.

Rexam said earlier this month it intended to make acquisitions after recording a profit in its plastic packaging division. The spokesman said the firm planned growth in the cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and PET sectors.
