Sumitomo Chemical is to double production capacity of polarised filmSumitomo Chemical is to double production capacity of polarised film Sumitomo Chemical is to double production capacity of polarised film – a key component in LCD displays – in both South Korea and Taiwan. The company is investing Y20bn (E150m) in two lines, which will each produce 4 million sq metres of film a year. It expects to complete construction by December, giving it a combined production of 16 million sq metres a year. Both lines will be capable of fully integrated production, from stretching roll films to assembling the finished product. The South Korea facility will be built adjacent to Sumitomo Chemical’s Pyongtaek works. The company already has a 4 million sq metre a year plant operating in the country, under the name Dongwoo Optical Film Co.v In Taiwan SC-IK Technology Co, a Sumitomo Chemical affiliate, will complete its first plant in the Tainan Science Park this month.
