Basell has sold a technology licence to a leading Russian petrochemical supplier

Basell has sold a licence for its Hostalen high-pressure polyethylene process to Salavatnefteorgsintez, a leading Russian petrochemical supplier. The company, a member of the Gazprom group, will use the technology on a 120,000tpa plant to be built at Salavat, in the Republic of Bahkortostan. The unit is scheduled to come onstream in 2006.

The agreement was signed by representatives of Basell, Gazprom and Tecnimont, which will conduct the plant engineering, in Moscow this month.

The Hostalen process produces both monomodal and bimodal HDPE including PE100 pipe grades and high tenacity film grades. It combines good processability and mechanical properties, according to Basell.
