Jaycares new owner says it will invest in machinery to make new products

UK medical packaging firm Jaycare was this week sold to private equity firm Phoenix Equity Partners for an undisclosed sum. Jaycare had been owned by 3i since 2000 when it was the subject of a management buy-out. The group has injection moulding, injection blow moulding and extrusion blow moulding facilities in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and employs almost 200 people. It has its own toolroom and class 10,000 and class 1,000 cleanroom moulding and assembly facility.

The company makes rigid plastic packaging for the pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare markets. Its products include HDPE bottles, PS pessary/tablet applicators and PP containers. As part of the deal, Jaycare will expand its management team with plastic packaging firm VR Scott chief executive Nigel Tipple and ex-Jefferson Smurfit chairman Pat Barrett.

A Phoenix spokesman told PRW.com the company did not expect to make any major changes to Jaycare’s business plan. “We think this is a very well run company and we are hoping the team will continue to expand it.” He added Jaycare had new products in the pipeline and Phoenix would provide the capital investment in machinery needed to produce and market them.
