A new internet service to provide online information and learning materials for workers in the UK polymer and other industries was launched this week. Evolvonline has been started by Cogent, which is shortly expected to be granted a five-year licence as the sector skills council for the polymer, chemicals, oil and gas industries.

Cogent chief executive John Ramsay said: “Evolvonline supports continuous learning and the acquisition of new skills and will help to improve the performance of firms in our sector. It will allow businesses and individuals in the sector to share knowledge and foster high performance work practices by widening access to learning materials that promote industry best practice and productivity improvement.”

At launch, the website is mainly geared towards the chemical, oil and gas industries, but a plastics injection moulding training package is expected to become available by the end of February. Evolvonline manager Mark Sorsa-Leslie told PRW.com that the learning material is being developed by Polymer NTO and five more plastics modules will be released later.

He said another way Evolvonline will help the polymer industry is in facilitating sharing of knowledge about emerging training needs. The aim is to identify skills issues and speed up the process of developing learning materials that address those issues.
