Cinpres Gas Injection is offering 3D flow analysis of thick section gas assisted mouldings, in co-operation with the University of Wales Swansea. Previously, CGI says, simulation of gas flows in thick tubular products was not particularly successful and rarely used. But 3D flow analysis programmes, developed at the University of Wales Swansea, will enable accurate predictions of material weights and time cycles.

CGI chairman Terry Pearson told PRW.com: “This is a completely new programme. It is not based on any existing package.” The company is marketing the 3D flow analysis exclusively. He said the analysis has already been used successfully to model a large automotive handle for an Australian customer.

CGI said the programmes help to optimise materials, plastic feed and gas injection positions and give accurate predictions of material weights and cycle times. It said variations due to gas timing can be studied and blow out situations, weld lines, air traps and secondary gas penetration foreseen. Products suitable for 3D flow analysis include handles, tubular pipes and structural tubular components.
