The company believes the attachment for cast PP film lines is uniqueThe company believes the attachment for cast PP film lines is unique Battenfeld Gloucester has developed a combination air knife and soft box attachment for cast polypropylene film lines. The first unit was installed on one of the company’s lines at a Chinese film producer late in 2003. Part of the SMS group, the US company believes the combined unit is unique. An air knife or soft box is normally used independently for different film thicknesses, pinning the web to the chill roll immediately after it exits the die. The combined unit handles a web thickness range of 20-150 microns. Battenfeld Gloucester claims the broad range of the unit does not compromise performance and offers reductions in downtime for product changeover. The component is attached between the die and chill roll. When a processor changes product and needs a different flow of air to pin the web to the chill roll, he makes a mechanical adjustment to the component and indexes the correct side into place.
