A survey by the European Organisation for Packaging and the Environment (Europen) found 65% of European companies used the guidelines set out in the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive’s Essential Requirements. These include reducing weight and volume and suitability for recycling or energy recovery. A Department of Trade and Industry report found the guidelines influenced the packaging policies of most UK companies surveyed.
