The Chinese plastics additives market is expected to grow to more than $3.5bn (E2.8bn) by 2007, a rise of more than 45% from 2003, according to a new report. US consultancy BRG Townsend is estimating Chinese additive consumption at $2.4bn (E1.9bn) in 2003. Growth in the PVC industry is the primary reason for the market increase. However, polyolefins, styrenics, polyamides and thermoset resins are also contributing to the burgeoning additives market. Plastic Additives in China 2003 estimates current domestic production at $1.8bn (E1.4bn) with 87% of that output consumed locally. Imports in 2003 were worth $900m (E710m), while exports were valued at $200m (E160m). The report covers China’s leading nine additive producers. These are Beijing Hushan Auxiliary Factory, Chongqing Changjiang Yangfan Chemical Co, Dalian Chemson Chemcial Co, Lanzhou Auxiliary Agent Plant, Ningbo Jinhai Albermarle Chemical Co, Shandong Qilu Plasticisers, Shanghai Huayi Plastics Auxiliary Additive Co, Shanghai Ciba Gaoqiao Chemical Co, and Weifang Yaxing Chemical Group.
