The plan is a requirement before repeal of Denmark's PVC tax

Denmark’s Minister for the Environment has drawn up a recycling action plan in advance of the possible repeal of the country’s tax on rigid PVC products. A government bill that will have its first reading this month could pave the way for repeal. The tax was imposed in 2000 on some products containing phthalates and some rigid PVC building products such as gutters, roofing and cable trays.

The abolition bill has been introduced on condition that a satisfactory collection and recycling plan is put in place. The action plan centres on an agreement signed last month with Danish recycling group Wuppi. Under the plan, Wuppi will work on a pricing structure to make recycling of hard PVC products competitive with the price of landfill. It will also conduct information campaigns in the public and private sectors and provide a yearly report to the government on collected quantities.
