The UK firm's satin chrome plating is proving popular in the automotive industry

UK plastic plating firm Borough has commissioned a second plating line following the success of its move into new 4,800 sq metre premises on the outskirts of Southend, south-east England.

The programme has involved an overall investment of around £2m (E2.8m), according to David Coombs, chairman and md of the privately owned firm. The company said the investment came from the success which it had enjoyed processing satin chrome on plastics mouldings. Coombs said the process has been particularly welcomed by the automotive industry, not just for interior components but also to meet stringent requirements for external use as well.

The use of the matt finish satin chrome style is very much in line with automotive fashions. Jaguar’s recently launched new XJ model has proved a showcase for the Borough process with applications on most bright chrome parts such as the gear selector surround, glove box lock bezel and dial surrounds.
