The company says deliveries will be unaffected

An explosion at Hydro Polymers’ PVC plant in Stenungsund, \Sweden, has halted production, but the company says deliveries will be unaffected. The explosion ripped through a steam generating boiler last Saturday, causing damage to property and equipment. No workers were injured.

Stenungsund information manager Siw Lundberg said: “The authorities have been informed about the incident, but initial investigations indicate that there has been no damage or consequences for the environment.” Stenungsund is an integrated PVC operation producing around 144,000tpa of PVC suspended resin and 58,000tpa of PVC emulsion paste.

Product is being shipped from Hydro’s plants in Norway and the UK to ensure that supply to customers is maintained, the company said. Repairs to the damaged plant are underway. The causes are still being investigated.
