The Scottish rotational moulder has invested in machinery to produce 75,000-litre tanks

Scottish rotational moulder Balmoral Chemical Tanks has invested more than £2m (E3m) in machinery to manufacture what the company claims will be the world’s largest tanks.

The 50-tonne machine can produce seamless 75,000-litre capacity tanks in polyethylene. The plant has been installed at the firm’s site in Aberdeen, where a new building was required to accommodate it. The investment has created 20 jobs with a further 30 jobs planned.

Balmoral Group chairman and managing director Jim Milne said: “This is a giant step forward for the rotational moulding industry. It is simply unprecedented. To be able to manufacture a tank that is totally seamless, to this capacity, will revolutionise the chemical storage market.”

The new tanks are designed to meet the requirements of various sectors, including chemical, pharmaceutical and food. Previously, the firm could manufacture tanks up to 10,000-litre capacity.
