Bayer MaterialScience partners with lamp manufacturer AtomSvet®| Subj: Press-releses Luminaires in production plants and other industrial buildings have a lot to withstand. Oftentimes they are exposed to dust or water vapor, or are installed in extremely cold or warm spaces. Streetlights and publicly accessible buildings, such as sports facilities, often are targets of vandalism. Based on this trend, Bayer MaterialScience has developed special structural materials based on polycarbonate. The product Makrolon® LED fulfills a variety of requirements that luminaires must meet for use in industry, construction or transportation. One example of the versatility of these plastics is energy-efficient LED luminaire systems for a variety of applications from Russian manufacturer AtomSvet®. The protective covers on the luminaires and the lenses integrated therein to direct the light are made of Makrolon® LED2245. The company chose this material because it is highly transparent and minimizes light losses. It is also breakproof and displays outstanding impact resistance, even at low temperatures. The luminaires therefore are durable and capable of withstanding attacks by vandals even under arctic conditions. In an industrial environment, the material shines due to its insensitivity to a range of chemicals. Another advantage is the good heat resistance and dimensional stability of Makrolon® LED2245. The dimensions of the covers do not change even when subjected to significant temperature fluctuations. As a result, they reliably protect the sensitive LEDs against moisture, as is the case, for example, with the AtomSvet® Bio luminaire designed for greenhouses. The material’s high reproduction accuracy in injection molding further ensures that the integrated lenses fit precisely on the LEDs, which are arranged on a circuit board module. With its polycarbonate, Bayer MaterialScience also is helping to promote the wider-spread use of energy-efficient LED lamps in these applications. In Germany alone, nearly half of the net power consumption is attributable to industry, with lighting contributing a double-digit percentage to that total. Significantly reducing energy consumption is crucial for conserving natural resources and protecting the climate. Luminaires from AtomSvet can help to do just that.
