Saudi Preinsulated Pipe Industries has bought two complete extrusion lines

Battenfeld Extrusionstechnik has delivered two complete extrusion lines to a Saudi Arabian HDPE pipe producer. Saudi Preinsulated Pipe Industries bought the lines to diversify into large-diameter plastic pipes for potable water transport. The production floorspace has been expanded by 2,000 sq metres and a further 14 employees recruited.

The lines are laid out for a maximum output of 600kg/hour and 1,000kg/hour dependent on material processed; this corresponds to a total production capacity of 12,000tpa, Battenfeld said. SPPI currently processes about 7,000 tonnes of plastic a year.

The first line will produce standard types of plastic pipes with diameters ranging from 90 to 400mm. The second can manufacture large pipes with diameters between 500 and 1200mm.

Battenfeld said two lattice basket dies had been purchased for the larger-diameter line. Both dies were delivered with a number of inserts to allow for the production of pipes with different wall thicknesses. The dies also came with co-extrusion equipment to produce pipes with up to eight colour stripes. SPPI currently manufactures mainly HDPE pipes, but the production line is laid out for processing all types of polyolefin.
