Brazilian pipe and fitting producer invests in a PVC pipe extrusion line from KraussMaffei Berstorff

Krona Tubos e Conexões S.A, a renowned Brazilian pipe and fitings producer, has ordered an extruder/pipe head combination from KraussMaffei Berstorff in order to produce PVC pipes. The machine - equipped with two new models, i.e. the 36D KMD 108-36 E2/R twin-screw extruder and the KM-RK 23XL pipe head – will shortly be used at the plant in Joinville to produce sewage pipes in the dimension range from 75 x 1.8 to 250 x 7.3 mm.

Satisfied customer uses two new models from proven series
Krona Tubos e Conexões S.A has been a customer of KraussMaffei Berstorff for several years and took the decision to invest in Krauss Maffei Berstorff products again. “The Joinville production plant is regarded as one of the most modern pipe plants in South America and we are very proud that this factory will soon be operating two new models of extruder and pipe head for PVC pipe extrusion," enthused Bruno Sommer, manager of the extrusion division at the Krauss Maffei do Brasil subsidiary.

Even more flexibility in production
The KMD 108 E2/R model rounds off the product range of KraussMaffei Berstorff 36D twin-screw extruders for medium output rates since it is designed for the range from 450 to 1000 kg/h. In addition to maximum cost-efficiency, the customer benefits from even more flexibility. The pipe head series is completed by two new models which are harmoniously integrated in the overall concept for perfect pipe extrusion because a wide diameter range is covered with the ideally matched system components. In particular, the KM-RK 23-250 model is synonymous with efficiency and flexibility. It can be used with an output rate of up to 1000 kg/h.

Perfectly refined process engineering concept
In combination with the pipeheads, the parallel 36D twin-screw extruders are optimally designed for processing a wide range of PVC formulations. The HPG (high performance geometry) screw concept leads to high process engineering flexibility; it ensures careful and homogeneous material processing. The 36D long processing unit increases process reliability and guarantees high production security. All pipeheads are designed according to thermal and fluidic aspects in order to ensure excellent pipe quality. They function according to the mandrel holder principle which has proved to be ideal, especially when processing thermally sensitive materials. Perfect melt distribution ensures small wall thickness tolerances, thus making production economical.

Ambitious company focusing on sustainability
Krona Tubos e Conexões S.A.was founded in 1994. The small company with four employees and a production area of 600 square meters very quickly became a profitable enterprise which now has a wide portfolio of more than 600 products and has made a name for itself primarily with pipes and fittings for pressure and sewage applications in the construction industry. Around 900 employees now work at two plants in Joinville and Marechal Deodoro. Krona is planning to extend its production capacities by up to 50 percent through the plant established in northeast Brazil in October 2012. Krona is also working constantly on the optimization of its processes in regard to sustainable production and the use of natural resources.
