Machine part production is set to begin in 2005

Mannesmann Plastics Machinery is planning to make components for its machines in central Europe.

Components involved are parts such as injection units and carriage parts, but not barrels or screws in plastification units, for the six group companies: Krauss-Maffei, Demag Ergotech, Berstorff, Netstal, Billion and Van Dorn Demag.

MPM group chairman Pepyn Dinandt said the company had made an extensive review of central and Eastern Europe over the last six to nine months to find a suitable location.

Speaking at Fakuma, he said the choice has now been narrowed down to three or four potential regions in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Pepyn said negotiations are in hand and the intention is to buy land and start building on it in 2004. Component production is to begin in 2005, with the plant operating as a 100% subsidiary of MPM.

The decision to make components in central Europe was part of a number of goals set last year, including one of becoming “the most profitable company in the branch”. Progress has already been made, the company reported, with earned revenues in the financial year 2002/2003 already exceeding the industry average level.
