The car, which was officially launched this week, has a rear lid made of SMC composite glass fibre and thermoplastic front wings. The bonnet and doors are made of aluminium. The BMW645Ci is powered by a 4.4-litre V8 engine but weighs 1,615kg – around 100kg lighter than the 545i saloon. BMW said the lightweight technology and engineering makes a “significant contribution to the car’s excellent driving comfort combined with thrilling dynamism”. UK sales begin in December this year.
