BASF presents materials for energy-efficient and low-maintenance construction in Russia

MosBuild – Russia’s largest trade fair for interior construction and building materials – is one of the world’s major construction trade fairs. From April 2-5, 2013, BASF will be exhibiting in Moscow as the leading global partner for sustainable construction, at Booth 333 in Pavilion F. Its main focus will be on various solutions to increase energy efficiency in buildings as well as on materials that enhance durability and thus reduce repair and maintenance costs. BASF employees will use a variety of demonstration models to showcase a selection of the company’s wide-ranging construction portfolio.

BASF will participate in two conferences on sustainable construction. At the e3 Forum “Life Cycle of Building Materials: the Ecological Dimension,” a BASF expert will illustrate the value of environmental product declarations and explain how, for example, construction materials can contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Another key aspect of sustainable construction will address the Russian Passive House Institute Conference. At the conference, whose theme is “Technologies for design and construction of energy-efficient and passive buildings,” participants will exchange information about reference buildings in Europe, Russia, and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Using the example of the Akademichesky district in the southwest of the Russian metropolis Yekaterinburg, BASF will demonstrate the special requirements for energy efficient construction in this climate zone. The reference object is a multi-family high-rise building that was planned and implemented by BASF and its partners.

These construction industry goals can only be realized with the help of innovations from chemistry,” says Sergey Andreev, Head of the BASF Business Center Russia and CIS, whose responsibilities include promoting dialogue between the construction industry and BASF.

The construction industry is an important customer industry of the BASF Group. In 2012, sales to the construction industry amounted to €5.2 billon.

Improving building energy performance
The construction and housing sector accounts for approximately 40 percent of global energy consumption and 30 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. This impact can be reduced significantly. At MosBuild, BASF will be presenting various solutions, including admixtures for concrete, spray foams for roofing and walls, insulated brick panels, thermal insulation systems, sandwich elements, insulation for building equipment, and heating pipes.

Neopor®, an advanced version of Styropor®, the classic polystyrene insulation material, contains special graphite particles that reflect thermal radiation like a mirror and reduce heat loss in the home. This material will be presented at MosBuild as an external thermal insulation composite system.

Further solutions that contribute to energy efficiency include polyurethane applications. BASF’s MosBuild exhibits include well-proven Elastopor®, Elastopir®, Elastospray®, and Elastopor® H rigid polyurethane foam boards for insulating roofs, walls, floors, and ceilings as well as PU sandwich elements for roofs and facades. With features including ultra-low thermal conductivity (grade 024), these materials are also used for rigid polyurethane foam insulation systems for window frames and shutter profiles.

Moreover, solutions that contribute to energy efficiency during the construction process are innovative concrete admixtures such as Glenium®, Rheobuild® and RheoMatrix® which allow concrete to reach increased energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Enhancing durability and endurance
BASF materials also help to protect structures from weathering, which in turn reduces maintenance and repair work. The company’s exhibits include durable high-performance flooring for industrial construction as well as repair mortars, solutions for structural strengthening, waterproofing and protection. In case of industrial buildings a durable cement and polymer-based grouting for precision machinery guarantee trouble-free operation.

MosBuild is the largest trade fair for buildings and interiors in Russia and Eastern Europe and targets many different interest groups. BASF has been exhibiting at the show for many years, engaging in dialogue with architects and building contractors.
