DSM strengthens engineering plastics divisionDSM strengthens engineering plastics division By John Whitehead DSM Engineering Plastics has unveiled a series of investments designed to strengthen the operation, now the focus of DSM group’s plastics activities following the sales of the polyolefins business to Sabic. The spending programme, estimated at around E100m, covers a fourth compounding line in China, a new compounding line for Akulon PA 6 at its Emmen site in the Netherlands, and a capacity boost of 25% for both polymerisation and compounding of its Arnitel copolyester TPE also at Emmen. It also includes a new compounding line at Pune, in India, as well as a newly opened Regional Development Centre in China. In addition, Jos Goessens, president of DSM Engineering Plastics revealed this week, plans are in hand for further capacity expansions in polymerisation of Akulon and debottlenecking of the Stanyl PA 46 and Stamylan UHMWPE plants. Engineering Plastics is one of five components of the group’s Performance Materials business, which, along with Life Sciences, comprise the two main strategic clusters of the ‘new’ DSM. At a press briefing in Geleen yesterday, DSM group vice president Jan Zuidam said: “DSM Engineering Plastics is a good profitable business with a remarkable track record in sales growth over the past years, at the heart of our Performance Materials cluster.” At present the total Performance Materials arm accounts for 31% of the group’s sales. It will play a full part in the drive to raise turnover to E10bn by 2005, Zuidam said. Source: PRW.com Previous news |
