Packaging puts the brakes on, but doesn't stop

Data from the Italian packaging institute, Istituto Italiano Imballaggio, indicates a slowdown in the packaging industry growth trend.

In 2001, packaging production grew 2.1% in Italy, which is below forecasted figures (in 2000, the sector grew by 5%), but, however, confirms this industry's solid state of health. This trend is expected to continue in 2002, with predictions for a 2.5% growth rate, with the first signs of visible recovery starting from the second half of the year. Plastic packaging has had more success in 2001: +2.5%, with forecasts this year for three percentage points of growth.
