PVC products demand 'will continue to rise'

PVC manufacturers and processors are claiming the material is a "key contributor" to the UK economy.
Produced from the findings of a survey of leading businesses in the market, a booklet called The UK PVC Industry - a major social and economic contributor charts respondents' contributions to employment, prosperity and good environmental practice.

The joint survey by the British Plastics Federation and PIFA concludes that according to market forecasts, the demand for PVC products will continue to rise as a result of "their versatility and cost effectiveness".

It suggests that the PVC businesses give strong support to regional communities through local spending, saying that, "on average, the companies who responded to the survey spent more than £4m each on local suppliers and services".

Industrial issues executive of the BPF, Matt Clements, said: "This cross-section of the UK PVC industry clearly shows that most areas of the country rely on these important key businesses for jobs and local prosperity.

"Furthermore, some areas of Britain, and particularly the Midlands and the North of England, have a large concentration of these companies, representing highly significant roles in the regional socio-economies."
