Swedish compounder introduces transparent TPE for packagingSwedish compounder introduces transparent TPE for packaging Swedish company VTC Elastoteknik AB has launched the Dryflex T series of fully transparent thermoplastic elastomers. The range covers grades from 30 Shore A to 90 Shore A in increments of 10. The company says that the Dryflex T series is manufactured in virtually clean room conditions in order to ensure that the finished product contains no visible impurities. A number of potential applications exist for the new TPE grade - a soft touch product with the capability of being overmoulded. The company says that principal among these is high value packaging, in particular toiletries, automotive additives and over-the-counter medicines. Development work is currently underway on new packaging systems, with the new grade being used for soft touch moulding of highly decorated bottles or closures. Elastoteknik, based in Åmål, Sweden, was formed in the late 1970s and was acquired by Nolato Group in 1993. British Vita plc bought the business in 2002 and it is now part of Vita Thermoplastic Compounds Limited.According to managing director of Vita Thermoplastic Compounds Chris Hopkinson: "Over the six months since Elastoteknik joined the group its brand Dryflex has developed comfortably with our existing TPE brand Vitaprene. The new clear grade will contribute largely to the development and differentiation of both the Dryflex and Vitaprene brands for the benefit of our customers and users."
