Mecaplast G roup st rengthens its presence in China

During its visit in China from the 6th to the 11th September, the Management committee of Mecaplast announced an ambitious plan of growth in this country.

“Today our turnover is 40M€ in China on our 2 factories (Wuhan and Shanghai) and it will be more than twice in 2014, that means 100M€, approximately 20 % of the Mecaplast’s turnover” announced Christine Benard, CEO.

This growth will go through the opening of a 3rd factory in the South in a short term, and then a bit further, a 4th in the North. Currently staffed by 75 engineers, the technical antenna will hire 150 people in 2012, to become a technical center, according to the expectations of the Customers.

"In China we do not relocate, we localize which means that we develop and manufacture locally products for the Chinese market. In other words if we did not make it, not only it would not save a single job in the Western Europe, but on the contrary it would threat our Group by depriving it of an extraordinary growth area, where our competence on very technical products is appreciated by our Customers " added Christine Benard.

Mecaplast made its first steps in China in 1997 with the creation of a joint-venture in Wuhan. In 2002, the Group created a plant and a technical antenna in Shanghai. In China, the Group manufactures mainly Engine parts (air admission line, cam cover and manifold) and suggests to his local customers (SAIC, SGM, DPCA) the best of its knowhow as the active air intake manifold or the 100 % in-house production of air filters. Mecaplast also manufactures Car body products as internal trims, the console and the cowl grill, among others.
