Altuglas International launches new acrylic resin range with enhanced chemical resistance

Altuglas International, a Business Unit of Arkema, has developed a new range of Altuglas® resins that offer enhanced resistance to chemical attack.

There are three grades available, depending on the final properties required: Altuglas® CR 8, Altuglas® CR 12 and Altuglas® HCR 3.

Altuglas® CR 8 and Altuglas® CR 12 offer good resistance to chemicals and good impact resistance (Altuglas® CR 12 has the higher shock and chemical resistance properties of the two grades). Altuglas® HCR 3 offers very high chemical resistance, good thermal properties and excellent surface hardness (Rockell).

These new grades retain the basic properties of transparency and durability that have built the reputation of all Altuglas® acrylic grades.

They can be formed by extrusion or injection and are recommended for such applications as bathroom fittings (meeting the EN 13559 standard), automotive body parts (very high resistance to cleaning agents) and the cosmetics packaging market (very high resistance to perfume liquors).

Altuglas International, an Arkema subsidiary, markets 20% of world production of PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) in the form of acrylic sheet and resin. In this sector, the company operates at eight production sites around the world. Its trademarks are Plexiglas® in the Americas and Altuglas® throughout the rest of the world.
