Equipment supply contract concluded for new expandable polystyrene production facility in Perm
SIBUR subsidiary Sibur-Khimprom CJSC has concluded a contract for equipment design and supply and management of construction and assembly for an expandable polystyrene (EPS) production unit with the German company Chemieanlagenbau Chemnitz GmbH.
SIBUR decided to implement the construction project for the new expandable polystyrene production facility at Sibur-Khimprom CJSC in Perm at the end of 2007. The estimated capacity of the first stage of the new complex is 50,000 tons per year, with a potential for future expansion up to 100,000 tons per year.
Technology developed by the Norwegian company Sunpor Technology S.A. will be used at the EPS production facility. Sunpor Technology S.A. has experience in successful operation of similar production facilities in Austria.
The first stage of construction and assembly operations are slated for completion by the end of 2010.
Chemieanlagenbau Chemnitz GmbH is a German company that provides engineering services in the oil-refining, gas-processing, and chemicals industries. It has over forty years of experience in designing, building, and commissioning industrial complexes and individual units.
Expandable polystyrene is actively used in construction of insulation boards for thermal insulation of walls and suspended ceilings (foam plastic) and in production of thin-walled goods and fire-resistant technical and food product packaging.
Polystyrene foam is an environmentally friendly material. When burned, polystyrene releases water and carbon dioxide, which is characteristic of the combustion of other organic materials, e.g. wood.
