The Plastics Recycling Council has become an affiliate member of the British Plastics Federation.
The two organisations have worked together on recycling issues for a number of years but affiliate membership will enable the Council to benefit from a package of BPF services, including provision of its secretariat.
The closer association of the two organisations will provide greater unity of plastics industry representation on waste management issues surrounding plastics.
According to the BPF’s public and industrial affairs director, Philip Law, “The joint platform will be an excellent springboard for the industry to capitalise on the growing opportunities for recycled products as manifested, for example, in the Sustainable Development Strategy for the 2012 Olympic Games.”
The Recycling Council’s chairman, Mark Burstall said it made great sense to join forces with the BPF in order to find common resolutions to the government’s consultations on the revision of the Waste Framework Directive and implementation of the EU’s incoming Reach regulation, which promises difficult consequences for recyclers.
