Perstorp launches PC diols for coatings market

24 April 2007 – Swedish chemicals company Perstorp has launched a new range of polycarbonate diols aimed at the polyurethane dispersion and elastomer coatings market.

Perstorp has rolled out two products from the Oxymer range – one for hard surface coatings and another for leather coatings and elastomers.

According to the company, PU formulators often rely on polyether polyols for elasticity and hydrolytic stability; and on polyester polyols for chemical resistance and outdoor durability.

Perstorp said polyester polyols inhibit elasticity and hydrolytic stability of the formulation creating a “troublesome no-win situation.”

The Oxymer polycarbonate polyols secure UV and chemical resistance, as well as hydrolytic stability and weatherability.

Håkan Björnberg, Perstorp business development director, said: “We expect to have a competitive advantage in the market since the Oxymer range is produced with our own polyols. This means we can guarantee secure availability, ensure the highest product quality and use our polyol expertise to tailor precise performance properties.”
