BPI takes over failed South Wales recycling firm’s equipment

17 April 2007 – BPI has acquired the equipment formerly operated by Integrated Polymers and its sister company Evolution Polymers at Rhymney in South Wales.

The films group has not bought Integrated Polymers as a going concern. The company went into liquidation in March.

BPI now plans a major investment to upgrade the plant to enable it process waste farm plastics from more viable sources and will remain on the same premises on the Capital Valley Industrial Estate.

According to Andrew Green, managing director of BPI Recycled Products, the acquisition will add 7,000tpa to the group’s nearby building film and recycling facility at Rhymney as well as extending the capacity provided by the 30,000tpa Dumfries plant.

“It is an excellent strategic fit for our business because a large amount of this waste plastic arises in Wales and the South West of England,” says Green.

With Birch Farm Plastics based in South Wales collecting exclusively for BPI across the UK, the new investment will cut the distance some farm scrap has to travel. “We still have plans to establish a large-scale farm plastic washing and recycling facility in South Wales. Whilst this latest investment will not give us the final capacity we have planned to install, it will provide the foundation for additional investment in this region in due course,” Green says.
