11 April 2007 – Dutch plastics packaging manufacturer Plasticum Group has reached an agreement with US-based Berry Plastics Corporation to buy its subsidiary company Berry Plastics UK, located in North Walsham, Norfolk. The price has not been disclosed.
Plasticum specialises in the manufacture of functional closures, spray actuators, pump dispensers and containers for FMCG companies in the personal care, pharmaceutical and food markets. It says the acquisition of Berry Plastics will strengthen its position in aerosol caps and spray caps, and anticipates “the transaction will lead to a normalisation of market conditions and a more balanced supply and demand in the UK market.”
The acquisition is the third of its type since Plasticum was split-off from Royal Ten Cate last year. It follows the purchase, in November last year, of the Bespak consumer business that included its trigger sprayer, fine mist spray pump, lotion dispensing pumping and continuous spray/valve actuator operations.
Berry Plastics Corp has a turnover of $1.3bn from 25 manufacturing facilities. It was sold by Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan to private equity firms Apollo Management and Graham Partners for $2.25bn in September 2006.
