Solvin plans second PVDC plant

30 March 2007 – Solvin, the joint venture between Solvay and BASF, has announced plans to build a second polyvinylidene (PVDC) plant.

The company hinted the new unit might be located at its Map Tha Put site in Thailand. Confirmation can be expected by the third quarter of 2007.

The 10,000tpa capacity plant would produce PVDC latex, which is a specialty barrier material used as a coating in packaging for food and pharmaceutical goods and marketed under the Diofan name.

Solvin produces PVDC at its plant in Tavaux, France.
