Ansell completes purchase of Polish condom maker

7 February 2007 – Glove and condom manufacturer Ansell has announced that its subsidiary Ansell Healthcare Europe has been successful in its bid for Polish condom maker Unimil.

Ansell made its initial offer back in July of last year. In December, Ansell raised this offer by appromixately 11% to PLN 5.90 per share. The deal has gone through at this raised offer, costing Ansell PLN 121.6m, or roughly $41m.

In a statement, Ansell said it is interested in acquiring all of Unimil's shares – at the close of business on 2 February 2007 the company had approximately 83%.

Ansell’s regional director for Europe, Werner Heintz, said: “The acquisition of the strong Unimil brands and market shares of approximately 50% in Poland and 8% in Germany, will be a significant boost to Ansell’s interests in Europe.”

Ansell’s global market share of the retail condom market increases to roughly 13%.

Formerly known as Pacific Dunlop Limited, Ansell bought a 75%-stake in Jissbon, a leading Chinese branded condom company, in 2006.
