Balda and Singulus find integrated solution

23 January 2006 – High precision plastics component producer Balda and machine manufacturer Singulus have developed jointly a new integrated production line for plastics components.

The joint venture was launched in October last year and no manual intervention is needed in the automated process. The line integrates plastic injection moulding and surface technology process stages.

Injection moulded plastic components are removed from the injection moulded machine and transferred to the Singulus 3DS metallising system for application of a metallic surface. It then goes to the non-scratch coating process.

The process enables extremely small production runs to be produced efficiently. And Balda and Singulus add that the process offers savings in time and money both in the production process and in logistics.

They say that other methods such as vapour deposition or painting are only possible in batch mode by working through the individual operations in sequence.

Stefan A. Baustert, Singulus management board chair, said: “This fruitful cooperation with Balda offers Singulus the opportunity to enter the market for decorative protective coatings with what is currently the most innovative product in the sector, and hence to implement the widely heralded diversification strategy to great effect.”
